The water would reach Tuesday afternoon a low of 70 centimetres in relation to the mean sea level, according to the forecast center tides of the municipality. Dozens of gondolas and boats were stranded in many channels of the city, while the "vaporetti" boats of public transport, were forced to change their route.
Venice has not experienced significant in 2007 rising waters, the water has only reached a peak of 109 centimeters above the mean sea level at the end of November. The worst rising waters in the history of Venice goes back to November 4, 1966: it had been submerged by 194 cm of water while the whole country knew catastrophic flooding.
