strange fact to Venice

In fact, this city is known for these walks gondolas in various channels of the city.
But on Feb. 19, 2008, Venice has experienced exceptionally low tide. So the gondoliers of Venice (north-east Italy) were forced to stand idly by Tuesday, the city hasn't almost as much water since Sunday due to an exceptional low tide.

The water would reach Tuesday afternoon a low of 70 centimetres in relation to the mean sea level, according to the forecast center tides of the municipality. Dozens of gondolas and boats were stranded in many channels of the city, while the "vaporetti" boats of public transport, were forced to change their route.
Venice has not experienced significant in 2007 rising waters, the water has only reached a peak of 109 centimeters above the mean sea level at the end of November. The worst rising waters in the history of Venice goes back to November 4, 1966: it had been submerged by 194 cm of water while the whole country knew catastrophic flooding.

Independence for Kosovo

Kosovo is a self-declared independent republic in southeastern Europe. After international negotiations failed to reach a consensus on an acceptable constitutional status, Kosovo's provisional government unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008, terming itself as the Republic of Kosovo. The new state is anticipated to receive partial international recognition from most European countries and the United States.

Prior to independence, Kosovo was a territory with an Albanian majority under the administration of the United Nations under resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council, dated 10 June 1999, and following the violent clashes that took place between Serbs and separatist Albanians in the late 1990 and the grave humanitarian disaster that ensued.

Since the peace accords Kumanovo, dated the same day, a NATO force, KFOR, ensure peace and order in this region formerly under the authority of Serbia. Negotiations on the status of Kosovo between Serbian authorities and Kosovo are long remained at an impasse, the first spoke only of broad autonomy for Kosovo within Serbia, the latter wanting independence. It is in this context that on February 17, 2008, the parliament of Kosovo has unilaterally declared the independence of the territory.

Do you know this sport: HORSEBALL?

Horseball is a game played on horseback where a ball is handled and points are scored by shooting it through a high net. The sport is like a combination of polo, rugby, and basketball. It is one of the ten disciplines officially recognized by the International Equestrian Federation. The sport originated in France in the 1970s, it gained success and has spread across Europe and overseas. The International Horseball Federation has 11 members including three outside of Europe, Brazil, Israel, and the Cayman Islands.

The ball used for this sport is: this ball is surrounded by leather thong because when the players have picked up the ball on the floor, they have a better grip.

As you can see on this photo, the players bend over their horse to be able to catch the ball.

To play, it takes two teams of six players, including two alternates, but, in reality, a team is made up of twelve members, including horses, which play a fundamental role in the game A team has a maximum of six players, but only four of them are at the same time on the ground. The remplacemens are made during stops play.

It's a very great sport.

If you have the opportunity to see this sport, do not miss the opportunity.

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14.
In North America and Europe, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery.

The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

But the day of St. Valentine is it useful?
In fact nowadays, many associations are opposed of this day formany reasons.
  • A lot of people are depressed because they are alone.
  • This day is becoming increasingly commercial
  • The Valentine's Day is it the only day to express his love to someone?
  • Why there are not a day for unmarried?
There are many other reasons for not liking Valentine.
For me, I do not like Valentine's Day because it is increasingly commercial.

2 janvier 2008

With this new year, many people will have to change their habit. Once in 2008, a law will be implement gradually. In fact, now, no one has the right to smoke in pub, restaurants, in all public places.
The only option for smokers from smoking is to go on the sidewalk or terraces furnished or in smoking room. I believe that this law is welcomed because when we go to a restaurant or other people can smoke, non-smokers have the smell of cigarettes and it's really unpleasant. But, this law will be really respected in all publics places?

To find out, we will have to wait a few months to get the initial results, the initial findings.

On the other hand, with this law, the owners of the bar-tabac will have pulling together because the consequences of this law will be very heavy to bear. In fact, smokers will no longer be able to eat and smoke, for a coffee while smoking. This law will be really difficult to bear for the managers of bars, restaurants because customers will be fewer and fewer.

So, many bars will have to remain closed because of this law, because the bar owners are going to earn a lot less money compared to previous years.
Happy New Year 2008!!!!!!

Hello everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a moment, we talk about the release of Betancourt Ingrid. In february 23, 2002, Ingrid Betancourt and her campagn director, Clara Rojas were kidnapped by Farcs, who are a Colombian Revolutionary group which was created in 1964.
For almost six years, Ingrid Betancourt live in the colombian forest with the others captives in precarious conditions.
Even if, for several days, we are talking about the liberation of three hostages, Clara Rojas and her child and an other person, negociations take a long time and hostages have still not at liberty.
But this release may be a message of hope for the family of Ingrid Bétancourt for the new year.
